THE WETLANDS SPIT ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE MARINA HAS BEEN UNDERGOING ACCELERATED EROSION FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS
THIS SPIT PROTECTS ALMOST HALF THE MARINA FROM WAVE ACTION, SO WE
NEEDED TO MAKE THE SIZEABLE INVESTMENT NECESSART TO TRY TO
PROTECT IT.
AFTER REVIEWING A VARIETY OF RIP-RAP OPTIONS, WE DECIDED TO TRY
SOMETHING RELATIVELY NEW: A COMBINATION OF READY-REEF CONCRETE PYRAMIDS
AND A MARINA MANUFACTURED 100' LONG FLOATING WAVE ATTENUATOR.
ON APRIL 5, 2017, READY-REEF INC. BEGAN TO INSTALL THE CONCRETE PYRAMIDS
THE 2' HIGH, 700 LB REEFS ARRIVE AND ARE UNLOADED
LOADING ON THE WORK BARGE AND BEGINNING THE INSTALLATION
ALEX ANDE DONTE HELP IN THE PRECISE PLACEMENT ON FILTER CLOTH
THE PROTECTIVE "REEF" TAKES SHAPE. AT HIGH TIDE, THE REEFS ARE MOSTLY UNDER WATER
THE SECOND STEP IN PROTECTING THE WETLANDS WAS TO INSTALL A 100' LONG X 8' WIDE FLOATING WAVE ATTENUATOR
TO REDUCE WAVE ACTION AGAINST THE WETLANDS AND INTO THE MARINA
