Insurance Requirements at the Marina
Smith
Point Marina carries Marina Liability Insurance to cover Marina
structures and people and boats which are damaged through the Marina's
negligence. This costs us a lot of money every year, but does
not cover boats and people on boats who are damaged or injured due to
the actions of the boat owners.
Boat Owners who sign Rental Agreements for Slip Space at the
marina agree to keep their boats insured. Annually, in April,
we request each customer send us a Boating Liability Coverage
Endorsement which shows that their insurance is up to date, and also
names Smith Point Marina as "Additional Insured" on their policy.
There are several other reasons to keep your boat insurance current:
- People riding in your boat can hold you responsible for accidental injury.
- Other boat owners can hold you responsible for accidental damage or injury to people in other boats.
- The Marina can hold you responsible for damage done to marina structures or people.
- If your boat sinks, or is damaged by excessive water,
hitting an object in the water, or a lightning strike - rather than
losing your investment or having a lot of out of pocket expenses, the
insurance can get you back on the water!
- If your boat is damaged by the actions of another boat, your insurance company can go to bat for you!
So, protect yourself and your fellow boaters and keep your Insurance
current! It is a small price to pay for this type of
protection.
