Green Marina - Environmental Awareness

Smith Point Marina is continuing to become an environmentally friendly marina. We are a designated Virginia Clean Marina, and a  member of the Commonwealth of Virginia sponsored "Businesses for the Bay" pollution prevention program.  Our location and state-of-the-art Marine Pump-Out station makes us the best marina on the Little Wicomico River to offer this service. As reported in our annual Busines for the Bay Facility Report we  have the following recycling programs at the marina:
Waste Oil (over 800 gallons recycled in 2009),
Aluminum Cans and scrap (over 2.5 Tons recycled in 2009),
Lead-Acid batteries (2000 lbs in FY 2009)
Scrap Steel (Over 1000 lbs recycled in 2009 )

Our  recycling center  ensures the best management practices are followed by all our marina patrons in material disposal and recycling.
We have also embarked on increasing our energy efficiency as  marina services expand. All new lighting is low wattage fluorescent.
We have installed solar warm air systems on on Bathhouse and Store .

Finally, we have , on the request of several of our customers, embarked on the recycling of old boats through disassembly and reuse of many components.

Related to the above, we have made  several energy efficiency improvements to our House on the Marina Property

These include:

Installation of GEO-THERMAL Heating and cooling

Installation of solar water heaters for the pool

Incremental installation of foundation , crawlspace and eve/attic insulation
